London International Shipping Week: LMAA Mock Arbitration – 16 September
On Thursday 16 September, 10.00 – 12.00 (BST), 4 Pump Court will participate in the LMAA Mock Arbitration. This event will take the form of a simulation of a real LMAA Maritime Arbitration hearing.
Since 2020 the pandemic has resulted in most arbitration hearings being conducted fully or semi-virtually on line, for which the LMAA has published widely used protocols, now included in the LMAA Terms 2021.
The LISW event will enable participants to view a hearing involving a typical maritime case scenario, including oral submissions by experienced barristers from 4 Pump Court and Twenty Essex with cross examination of witnesses who will give oral evidence remotely. There will also be an opportunity for participants to raise questions on the process to be answered by practitioners on or off line.
The event will therefore give participants a real insight into the way in which London arbitrators and lawyers have been able to use technology to overcome the constraints of the pandemic and also to reduce cost and advance towards truly green arbitration.
